Seva, in her
memory.

Madhumita Edu Med Foundation serves the underprivileged of Dhanbad and surrounding Jharkhand — in health, education, and the basic necessities of a dignified life.

MEM Foundation serves the people of Jharkhand — with Dhanbad and its surrounding districts at heart — in the basic necessities of life: healthcare, education, and livelihood.

A registered charitable trust, run by volunteers, for families who need a hand held out.

Our journey so far

Five years of small, steady steps.

Since our first act of seva in August 2021, MEM Foundation has kept showing up — one camp, one classroom, one family at a time.

  • 2021 the year our seva journey began
  • Every May a Mega Blood Donation Camp, held annually since 2021
  • 69 children treated at free medical camps
  • 100+ children given warm and everyday clothes
  • 55 children learning at a slum school we support
  • 122 units of blood arranged in our first year alone

Our work · Healthcare

The blood we cannot make, we can give.

Every year since 2021, MEM Foundation has held a Mega Blood Donation Camp in Dhanbad — most recently on 7 May 2026 at Geetashree Bhawan, Hirapur, with the Blood Storage Unit of Sadar Hospital Dhanbad, the SNMMCH Blood Centre, and the District Health Committee.

Over the years the camps have moved from a Gurudwara to community halls to college clubs, and drawn first-time donors, women, students, and officials alike.

Our founder, Sri Gopal Bhattacharyya, was recognised by the Jharkhand State AIDS Control Society for the fourth-highest voluntary blood-donation contribution among NGOs in the state, 2021–22.

  • 61 units collected at our 2026 camp
  • 21 of the donors were women
  • 6 gave blood for the first time

Our work · Where it started

The first step: clothes, and a little sweetness.

On 14 August 2021, MEM Foundation took the first step of its seva journey: a Vastra Daan — a cloth distribution — near Barwadda, for families living in bamboo-and-polythene huts and working informal labour. More than forty people, mostly children and women, each received two sets of clothes, with biscuits and chocolates for all.

The months that followed were busy ones: a Thalassemia screening camp for children at PMCH Hospital in September, free medical camps in the bastis, winter woollens for 55 children of a slum school run with IIT Dhanbad, and a blood donation drive on Guru Nanak's birthday — the beginnings of a mission that continues today.

Our name

In memory of Madhumita

MEM — Madhumita Edu Med Foundation — carries the name of Madhumita, in whose memory it was formed.

A foundation born of loss chose to answer it with seva: giving blood, teaching children, and standing beside families who have the least. Its work has grown every year since.
